|
BitMeter OS is the first beta versions of this cross-platform, open source bandwidth meter are now available. Download installers for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX.
BitMeter OS is a free, open-source, bandwidth monitor that works on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX. BitMeter OS keeps track of how much you use your internet/network connection, and allows you to view this information in a variety of ways.
Beta versions of BitMeter OS are currently available for testing, you can download the installer using the link on the right of this page. Please let me know about any bugs that you find, and if everything seems to work fine, let me know that as well!
Once BitMeter OS is installed on your computer you can monitor your connection usage either via a web browser, or by using the command line tools. The Web Interface displays various graphs and charts that show how your internet/network connection has been used over time.
BitMeterOS will be available for a number of different operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac OSX. Architecturally this new version of BitMeter is very different to the olderBitMeter 2, the main differences are:
1. No dependency on the .NET framework, the core components of BitMeter OS are written in C
2. Much smaller footprint - it uses less memory, requires less CPU time, and the executable files are smaller
3. Bandwidth usage stored in a SQLite database
4. Bandwidth usage logged using a Windows Service, or a daemon process on Linux/OSX - this means that logging begins as soon as your system starts up, and continues even if no-one is logged in.
5. Command-line interface - the core data capture component, and command-line client, can be run on servers where no GUI is available
