Coin Flip Equilibrium
|
Study probabilities with this flip a coin simulation. Coin Flip Equilibrium model simulates a a simple system of N coins arranged in ordered rows. The coins all begin heads up. At each step of the simulation one or more coins are chosen at random and flipped over. Separate windows show the set of coins, a plot of the number of heads/tails after each step, the entropy of the system after each step, and a histogram of the occurrences of a given number of heads. The user can change the number of coins and the number of coins flipped at each step of the simulation. A user can modify this simulation if EJS is installed locally by right-clicking within the plot and selecting "Open Ejs Model" from the pop-up menu item.
Controls:
1. Play/Pause: starts (or stops) the simulation.
2. Step: performs a single step of the simulation (which may involve several coin flips - see below).
3. Reset: resets simulations without changing parameters.
4. Full Reset: resets simulation to initial state, with original parameter values.
5. Show Entropy Plot: checkbox to show a plot of the (Boltzmann) entropy of the system after each step.
6. Show Histogram: checkbox to show a histogram of the number of times the system has had a given number of coins heads up.
7. Number of Coins: sets the number of coins in the system. User may edit this value and hit Return to reset the simulation with a different number of coins (up to 2000).
8. Flips per Step: sets the number of coin flips to be performed before updating the display. Using a larger value will make the simulation run faster.
