Dtella@Home is a distributed P2P system which emulates a Direct Connect hub, allowing users to collaborate and share documents between computers. Dtella@Home is based off of Dtella, which was originally written by Dtella Labs. This version of Dtella has been modified to allow any IP Address to access the network.
Dtella@Home is the distributed DC hub emulator utility. It is the backbone of the network and provides a means for clients to connect to one another and form a DC hub for document sharing. A DC client is required in order to interact with the Dtella "hub", and provides an interface for the user to navigate the hub, search for documents, etc.
Installing Dtella@Home on Windows
1. Download Dtella@Home from SoftSea
2. Download a suitable DC++ client such as ApexDC++ or DC++
3. Install both Dtella@Home and the DC++ client
4. Start Dtella@Home after installation is finished. Dtella will need to run in the background while you use your ApexDC++ client.
5. Start your ApexDC++ client after you start Dtella@Home running in the background.
6. Use the following configuration to configure your client to connect to the Dtella@Home network
Server Name: Dtella@Home
Server Address: 127.0.0.1:6473
Server Password: none
If you have a router or firewall you must make a port forward or firewall exception for both a UDP port and a TCP port. The UDP port is how Dtella communicates with other nodes and is set using the
!UDP <port> command in chat. The TCP port is used during file transfers and needs to be set in the DC++ connection settings. Make sure that the DC++ UDP port is not the same as the Dtella UDP port. You only need to forward the Dtella UDP port and the DC++ TCP port
You must also install a suitable ApexDC++ client for connecting to Dtella@Home. ApexDC++ and DC++ are two available clients. The default install for either is sufficient, and specific setup instructions for both are below.
1.Run your ApexDC++ client.
2.When prompted for connection and nickname info, fill in a nickname and leave the rest.
3.Click the gold start at the top, this will open your favorite hubs list.
4.Click New to create a new hub.
5.Enter the configuration details for the Dtella@Home network (see above).
6.Click OK.
7.You'll see the newly created hub, check the box beside its name in order to have ApexDC++ auto-connect.
Sharing
1. To download on Dtella@Home you must have something shared, to do this go to "File -> Settings ->Sharing".
2. Then add any appropriate folders to share.
3. Click OK.
4. In the favorite hubs window, choose Dtella@Home and click connect.
