Elevation PowerToys has been created to make UAC more palatable for people who work with UAC on (as we all should) but frequently have to elevate tasks. Many people in IT fall into this category. The "deployment" tie-in here is that you can deploy these PowerToys as a Role-based application for IT Admin-type users to improve their UAC experience on Vista. This will hopefully encourage those who have Administrator rights (either directly or they know the credentials of an Admin account) to stay secure and keep UAC turned on.

Run as Another User; Prompt Here as System for CMD and Windows PowerShell and Drag-and-drop Elevation Gadget. With Windows 7, Microsoft has relaxed UAC, allowing users more control over the level of nagging produced by the feature. However, the Elevation PowerToys could always come in handy.
Run as Another User PowerToy

Once you expand the package, you'll find a folder titled Elevation that contains a host of INF files that will allow you to pick and choose which Script Elevation PowerToys you want to install. You'll also find a CMD file named InstallAllPowerToys.cmd that will allow you to install all the Script Elevation PowerToys. Unless you know that you will be running all sorts of scripts, I would suggest that you install only those Script Elevation PowerToys for the types of scripts that you will be running. Be sure to investigate the Readme.txt file for more detailed information.

Elevation PowerToys Features:
1. Run as Administrator for third-party scripting tools
2. Run as Another User
3. Prompt Here as System for CMD and Windows PowerShell
4. Drag-and-drop Elevation Gadget

User Account Control (UAC) was created to make the operating system less vulnerable to malware by having users, even those who are Administrators, run most applications with standard user privileges. UAC offers elevation potential for administrative tasks and other app functions.
This elevation potential is provided through the Run as Administrator option, which you get when right-clicking on executable files. The Elevation PowerToys that I discussed in the June 2007 issue extended this capability to work on other file and object types.
