FolderSynca
|
Folder and file synchronisation. FolderSynca compares files in selected paired folders and, based on set criteria, copies files between folders to maintain the most recent files.
Comparison can be based on file size, file content or file modification times. If comparison by size or content indicates a difference, and if selected, the file with the most recent modification time is selected and, if necessary, copied to the other folder. If not selected, you will be requested to skip that file or use the modified time. Files and folders are never deleted by the program but older files are overwritten by younger versions. If selected, a file to be replaced will be saved in a separate folder so you cannot accidentally lose anything. The date-time saved, in the format 'Year Month Day Hour Min' is added to the title to identify it for possible recovery. Initially the folder will be set as a sub-folder of that holding the exe file, but can be changed by adding a folder to "Saved_Files_Folder=" in foldersynca.dat.
Synchronisation can be in a single direction or bi-directional, with A to B being compared first if bi-direction is used. There are options to exclude or include hidden files and folders ( normally system required files/folders )and a file mask that can include or exclude specific files ( eg *.jpg;*.doc;*.rtf ).
It is also possible to select only files that have the Archive flag set and optionally to reset the archive flag after processing. The Archive flag indicates the file has changed in some way and is used, for example, to undertake an incremental backup where only changed files are selected. Backing up will normally reset the flag. Resetting the flag after synchronisation will serve the same purpose and allow the program to select only those files that have changed since last synchronised.
Once all selections are made, the profile can be saved for future use. Files copied are listed and optionally logged. The log shows options used and action taken. The file listing can be hidden by reducing the height of the program. The program will work with or without the file list showing. The program will open using the size when closed.
The timer cycle can be set from 1 minute to 23 hrs and 59 minutes. Once the timer is set the program can be minimised.
Synchronisation can also be undertaken on start and/or on close. If the program is minimised and a timed operation results in a file being actioned, the taskbar button will flash. The program will open with the profile that was in place when the program closed.
Double-clicking a listed sub-folder will open explorer with that A folder/sub-folder. Holding the SHIFT key down will open the B folder/sub-folder, if it exists.
Installation
FolderSynca is a single file application and does not require installation other than extraction to a folder of your choice. However it does create a .dat file containing program settings, a .log file holding logged information and a sub-folder named 'Saved_files'. I suggest you extract these files to new folder of choice, create a shortcut and copy it to your Start-up folder so that FolderSynca starts with Windows.
The license of this software is Freeware, you can free download and free use this file sync software.
