Geocando is a 3d Viewer for visualisation and querying of geodata and geomodels. It is a free program designed for the visualization of geodata. As a pure viewer it does not change the original data. You can save settings in a project file, that means, which data is loaded and how the data is visualized. When you open the project, the scene is set up in the same way. At the present time the program is tailor-made for loading data from Gocad. But the flexible design allows also the integration of other kind of data.

The objective of the program is to set up a visualization tool and not to compete with large geomodeling software. Visualization is an effective means for extracting information from the data by humans. Internally, the powerful Visualization Toolkit VTK is used. The open architecture facilitates the extension of functionality.

Geocando support several formats, but it does not import all information. The following enumeration lists the file formats and which kind of data is relevant.
1. Gocad files containing objects of the types PointsSet, Curve, Surface, Solid, Voxet and SGrid.
2. VTK files The geometry of polygonal data is imported. Structured and unstructured grids are not supported. The polygonal data is split into several objects if the topological dimension is not constant.
3. Shapefiles. Only the geometry is imported.
