An easy to use metadata manager. Image Metadata Manager is a versatile tool focused mainly in handling metadata information of image files. Photo files often come with metadata embeded in it, for example, the date and time the photo was taken, the speed and aperture the camera used to take that photo, and many more. This information can be used for many things, including sorting and renaming the photos, giving photos meaningful information about who is in it and where it was taken by the means of keywords, localizing the photo with GPS coordinates and others. This application tries to make these tasks easier to the average user while also providing means to do more advanced metadata manipulation.

The Image Metadata Manager divides metadata into five categories:

With the event of digital photographs, keeping and adding information about the photos within the photo files became a possibility and a standard for photo metadata was created, which most camera manufacturers use, and this standard has evolved since then to allow more information to be stored into a photo file. Together with the changes in the standards a difficulty was created, since different standards and versions of the same standard created a problem in managing metadata in a way all the applications would read, write and process the same information. It is in this scenario that this application has been developed, and it uses the Windows Imaging Component (WIC) to provide easy access to metadata using the right combination of several different standards and their versions, such as EXIF, XMP and IPTC.

Making use of the Managed Image Library the Image Metadata Manager will present the user with well formatted information without any worries about which standard to use. Also because of the library, more information than that directly provided by the WIC can be easily used.

Description: it contains the title of the image, description, rating and copyright information
1. Keywords: it contains the keywords or tags related to the image
2. Date: it contains the date and time the photo was taken
3. Location: it contains GPS information and location name like address, city, state and country
4. Shot: it contains read-only information about how the shot was taken, i.e. exposure, aperture, etc.
5. Photographer: it contains information about the photographer who took the photo

The Image Metadata Manager can:
1. open JPEG and TIFF images
2. manage photo metadata information, viewing adding and editing it
3. provide well formatted information to make it easy to read and understand
4. display GPS information both on text and on a map, and allow easy editing directly on the map
5. automatically rotate images using their orientation information to make them upright
6. rename photo files using metadata information such as date and time taken and others
7. query metadata information from a file using Microsoft's Metadata Query Language
8. update application automatically
