Junior
|
Junior is based on the popular Hangman game, which I wrote primarily to teach myself C++ and the Windows API. Author removed all references to hanging people, as it's aimed at pre-school kids, and added a speech synthesizer which would speak the words in order to help small kids to learn how to read and write. If you can teach your kid to use a mouse, you can teach them to read and write. I should imagine it works great with toddlers and touchscreens, as Author have seen under 2's reading and writing on those 'your baby can read' adverts, so if you've got a toddler, Junior may well be the perfect excuse to justify buying yourself a touch screen from the family finances.
Create Your Own Data files
You can create your own data files in a text editor. Just type the word/s you want to guess on one line (no more than 47 characters per entry - including spaces). The next line should be the filename of the picture to be displayed (245 x 235 - jpg, bmp, gif or png). Then save it as a text file called 'data.txt' in a new directory (along with the associated pictures), and add the name of the directory to the 'junior.ini' file..
Updating The 'junior.ini' file
Load 'junior.ini' into a text editor, then add your data file to the list by typing two lines of text. The first line of the entry must be the name of the data file as you wish it to be shown in the new game selection window, and the main Junior window when people are playing it. The next line of the 'junior.ini' entry should be the directory containing the 'data.txt' file you wish to use. You can add up to 1,000 data files, each holding up to 1,000 entries. To change the default game file that Junior starts with, just copy and paste the two lines for the file you want, to the top of the 'junior.ini' file.
