Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Sybase is a tool to automate migration from Sybase ASE database to SQL Server or SQL Azure. SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for Sybase consists of a client application that you use to perform a migration from Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) to SQL Server or SQL Azure. It also contains an extension pack that supports data migration and the use of ASE system functions in your migrated databases.

You install the client application on the computer from which you will perform the migration steps. You must install the extension pack files on the computer that is running SQL Server where migrated databases will be hosted.

SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for Sybase lets you quickly convert Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) database schemas to SQL Server or SQL Azure schemas, upload the resulting schemas into SQL Server or SQL Azure, and migrate data from Sybase ASE to SQL Server or SQL Azure.

Requirements for the SSMA for Sybase ASE client:
1. Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version.
2. The Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or a later version. The .NET Framework version 2.0 is available on the SQL Server product media. You can also obtain it from the .NET Framework Developer Center.
3. The Sybase OLEDB/ADO.Net/ODBC provider and connectivity to the Sybase ASE database server that contains the databases you want to migrate. You can install providers from the Sybase ASE product media.
4. Access to and sufficient permissions on the computer that hosts the target instance of SQL Server.

Requirements for the SSMA for Sybase extension pack:
1. SQL Server 2005 or higher.
2. Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version.
3. The Sybase ASE OLEDB or ADO.NET or ODBC provider and connectivity to the Sybase ASE database server that contains the databases you want to migrate. You can install providers from the Sybase ASE product media.
