Microsoft Security Compliance Manager is the next evolution of the Microsoft Security Compliance Management Toolkit (SCMT) Series. It provides centralized security baseline management features, a baseline portfolio, customization capabilities, and security baseline export flexibility to accelerate your organization's ability to efficiently manage the security and compliance process for the most widely used Microsoft technologies.
The Solution Accelerators - Security and Compliance (SA-SC) team developed the features and guidance included with the Microsoft Security Compliance Manager to provide you with recommendations for hundreds of Group Policy security settings to assist our customers in making the environments of their organizations more secure. The Security Compliance Manager tool allows you to view, update, and export security baselines. The tool was created to integrate the tools and information in the Security Compliance Management Toolkit series of Microsoft Solution Accelerators to make it easier for you to plan, implement, and monitor security baselines in organizations of all sizes.

To get started, first install the Security Compliance Manager tool by double-clicking Microsoft_Security_Compliance_Manager.Setup.exe and following the instructions in the installation wizard. If you previously installed an earlier version of the tool, you must uninstall it before installing this version. You can uninstall the tool in Windows 7 from Control Panel by clicking Uninstall a program, and in Windows Vista by clicking Add/Remove Programs.
Use the following procedure to download and import one or more security baselines from Microsoft.
To download and import a security baseline:
1. Open the Tools menu and click Check for Baselines.
2. In the Download Baselines window, select check boxes for the desired baselines that you want, and the click Download.
3. Specify a location to save the download package.
4. After the Import Baselines Wizard starts, click Add.
5. In the Open dialog box, navigate to the desired folder, click the desired baseline, and then click Open.
Note: If you see a message warning that the publisher cannot be verified, click Run to continue the import process.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to import additional baselines as needed.
7. Click Next.
8. On the Baselines Overview page, which displays information about the baselines, including name, description, publisher, and setting groups, select the Create modifiable copies of each baseline to be imported check box to create modifiable copies of each baseline that you want to import.
9. Click Next to continue the import process.
10. Click Finish to finish the wizard.

* SQL Server 2008 Express edition.
