MyShare is an mini Web server for quick file sharing over the Internet. MyShare is a bicycle, if a standard Web server like IIS (Microsoft Internet Information Server) is a car. No special training is required to use MyShare. After reading the rest of this artical, you will ba able to use MyShare.

Like most of our products, MyShare is a portable Windows application: You don't have to install it before you can use it. It can work without problems on portable storages such as USB disks. Just download the zip file which contains the single program file, unzip it to disk and let it run.

Two things need to be decided before starting the server:

1. Port: A port is a number from 1 to 65535. As we know, each computer connected to network has a IP address. If the IP address is the number of a house, then a port is the number of a room of that house. The official port number for a Web server is 80. But to avoid strangers or robots, we usually use other port numbers. Port numbers smaller than 2000 are not recommended, because most known services are using ports in this range. For example, 110/25 are for emails, and 1433 is used by MS SQL.

2. Port Mapping: If a computer is behind a router, other computers on the Internet can not access it directly. This is because the router uses the real Internet IP address and then assigns an internal IP address to each computer behind it. If your computer is behind a router and you want to share files with people on the Internet, the router must be configured so that it link the port to your computer. This is called port mapping. If your router supports UPnP 1.0 and the [Map Port] checkbox is checked. MyShare will configure the router for the port mapping.

Once port number and port mapping is decided, now you can start the server by clicking the [Start] button on the toolbar. The server may fail to start if the port number is already occupied by another program. In that case, choose a different port number and try again. Also, if you have a firewall, it may alert you that MyShare is trying to be a server. You should tell the firewall not bo block MyShare, otherwise the server will fail to start.
