OpenDS is an open source community project building a free and comprehensive next generation directory service, based on LDAP and DSML standards.
OpenDS is designed to address large deployments, to provide high performance, to be highly extensible, and to be easy to deploy, manage and monitor.
OpenDS provides multiple methods to install the directory server. Installation is made quick and easy via the "Quick Setup" Web Start installer and step-by-step instructions. During the installation process note the installation path, LDAP listener port, administrative User DN/password and the Directory Base DN as you'll need these properties to configure the GlassFish realm.

The following example presents instructions to install a stand-alone OpenDS directoryserver on a Windows system.

To Install OpenDS
1. Click the following link to launch the installer: Launch QuickSetup Now
2. Accept the default option: Install New Server Instance. Click Next >.
. Enter the server settings for your installation, and then click Next >.
4. Accept the default option: This will be a stand-alone server. Click Next >.
5. Accept the Directory Base DN and Only Create Base Entry. Click Next >.
6. Review the settings, and then click Finish.
7. When OpenDS has successfully completed the installation, click Close.
