ReXtend
|
Microsoft Windows has the "feature" to hide known file extensions. However, with this option enabled there is suddenly no easy way of changing that extension. You want to change "TXT" to "HTML" (or X to Y for that matter!), but how? ReXtend is the second best thing to a built-in function. With just a single click, you can easily change the extension of your file. ReXtend offers more features, like easy access in the SendTo Menu, renaming all the files in a directory to a new extension and remembering the extensions of your files!
To install ReXtend, run the selfextracting file or, if you got the zipped archive, unzip it and run the setup program. Follow the on-screen instructions.
To uninstall ReXtend, go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and select ReXtend from the list. If you cannot find ReXtend in the list, you can uninstall it manually by running it with the /Remove switch; I.e "ReXtend.exe /Remove".
To change the extension of a file using ReXtend, right-click on any file and choose Send To\ReXtend. It's the one with a X-shaped-clip icon.
Enter a new extension or choose one from the ComboBox. The ComboBox store the extensions of the original file and the new extension you gave the file. In time, this might be a very large list.
Press the 'ReXtend' button and the file will be renamed with the new extension.
Check the 'Rename All' box and ReXtend will rename ALL files in the folder with the files extension to the new extension.
If a file with the new name already exist, you will be told.
