Road Wars is a game of strategy, vehicular combat, and survival. As the player, you control a road gang consisting of up to 10 vehicles that will be in constant need of fresh supplies, specialists, and new recruits. Your goal is to find a group of scientists hidden in cities all over what used to be The United States and then disarm the nuclear silos that have been activated by an evil cult, The Children of Tomorrow. Along the way you will encounter rival gangs, starving mobs and mutants, disease and various other dangers.

As the gang leader you will need to survive by finding vehicles and new recruits while keeping their morale up. Supplies, such as food and ammo, will have to be scavenged from the desolate country side or looted from rival gangs. A key piece to survival is to capture cities and getting upgrade points. Once you start collecting points you can upgrade your vehicle's armor, weapons, etc. and be better equipped than the many gangs you will face on the roads.

Your gang must find a number of nuclear scientists hidden in cities all over the country and use them to disable a certain number of nuclear silos before its too late. Vehicle combat is real time, there are 23 vehicle types in Road Gangs and all vehicles have over a dozen upgrade options available.

How do you play Road Gangs? There is a whole map of the United States to explore including an entire highway system and over 50 major cities to capture. The roads are very dangerous and your gang will be attacked by rival gangs, during combat you can issue attack orders to your vehicles such as ramming and boarding. The more cities your gang captures along the way the more points you will earn to upgrade your vehicles such as braking and mounted weapons.

What is the vehicle combat like? Vehicle combat is in a pausable real-time format and very tactical and your gang can have as many as 10 vehicles. Combat takes place in the country side, on the roads and in ruined cities. You can't actually steer your vehicles but you can tell them what enemies to attack or even patrol a certain area. You can also attempt to board and capture an enemy vehicle during combat, or attack a specific location of an enemy vehicle such as concentrating fire power on the tires. There are a variety of combat options available which makes each battle unique and interesting.
