Why does logon take so long time than before? What are all those icons in the system tray? How do I stop programs from starting automatically? How do I get rid of that strange error that keeps cropping up during logon? We have probably heard these questions plenty of times, especially from Windows users who are working on new systems that came preloaded with applications or on older systems on which they have installed numerous programs over time. Seasoned users know that all above problem are almost aroused by the startup programs. Upon installation, many applications configure themselves to start automatically when you log on. Applications do this so that they can automatically check for updates, because they use system tray icons to interact with users, or because they add functionality to Windows components such as Windows Explorer. However, most such applications do not ask permission before inserting themselves in our logon process and almost never provide an interface to let us disable their autostart functionality. If there is a powerful and easy to use utility that allows us to manage the startup programs in our operating system. Need not to look for here and there. Thank for CodeStuff, the publisher of Starter, the powerful and full-functions startup manager. With Starter we can manage these startup programs according to our will.
Starter is a startup manager, that allows us to view and manage all the programs that are starting automatically whenever Windows boots. It lists all the hidden registry entries, as well as the common Startup Folder items as well. We can choose to safely disable selected entries, edit them or delete them altogether (if we know what we are doing). Expert users can even add their own entries. Nice interface, easy to use, no documentation though (but hardly needed).
The latest version of Starter is 5.6.2.8 and the new functions and benefits of it include: New look and feel. Ability to enable, disable, toggle and delete several items at once (corresponding confirmation options were also added). Can show item info in tooltip. Now can save as html and txt. Ability to start/stop services from toolbar. Holding Shift while pressing Stop will Restart service. Can search for existing file in system dir first and use it instead of a local psapi.dll. Status bar hints (CPU and Mem) were visible even if Starter was minimized. Terminate and change priority functions can now be used for multiple processes simultaneously. Show icons in Starter main and context menus. Now we can get rid of many icons from the interface at once, if we do not like them. Show CPU usage graph in tray icon, when CPU usage and tray icon are enabled. Option to store settings in a file instead of registry. If the file is Read Only, it will not be updated and any settings we change will not be saved and more.

Starter is yet another startup manager, that allows you to view and manage all the programs that are starting automatically whenever Windows boots.

As a primary purpose, Starter allows one to view and manage all the programs that are starting automatically whenever operating system is loading.
It enumerates all the hidden registry entries, startup folders' items and some of the initialization files, so that the user could choose to temporarily disable selected entries, edit them, create new, or delete them permanently.
Secondary purpose is to list all the running processes with possibility to view extended process' information (such as used DLLs, memory usage, thread count, priorities etc.), and to terminate selected process (even a Windows NT service, having enough access rights).
Starter is a real Freeware and is not crippled in any way among the similar products. The user interface is pretty simple and has a lot of options that are self-explanatory.
