TrafficCompressor can be especially valuable for you if you pay for Internet for traffic (per MB), e.g., if you use a GPRS, EDGE, or ADSL connection. TrafficCompressor helps you to save money by saving your Internet traffic.

One of the most important TrafficCompressor advantages is its universality.

You do not need to re-configure your web browser, e-mail client, or other software to enable TrafficCompressor. TrafficCompressor transparently works with your network software.

Any Connection Type Supported.
TrafficCompressor works over Internet connections of many types. You can TrafficCompressor with a GPRS/EDGE(EGPRS), ADSL, GSM/CSD/HSCSD, CDMA, dial-up, ISDN, cable modem, Radio Ethernet, Wi-Fi, satellite Internet connection.

TrafficCompressor compresses data received and sent over the Internet. When you open a web page or receive an e-mail with TrafficCompressor the data is not transferred directly from the web or e-mail server to your computer. The data is transferred through one of the TrafficCompressor servers located on high-speed Internet backbones. The TrafficCompressor server compresses the data and sends it in compressed form to your computer via your dial-up, GPRS, or other connection. That results in your Internet traffic decrease. This has a side effect - the data is transferred faster.
The TrafficCompressor program running locally on your computer receives the compressed data, decompresses, and delivers it to your web browser, e-mail client, or other local software.

Unsupported traffic (ZIP, MP3, EXE files, FTP, HTTPS, SMTP traffic and so on) is not transferred through the TrafficCompressor servers and not compressed.

Let's examine in details how it works when you are opening, for example, www.google.com page in your web browser.

You are typing www.google.com address in the address bar of your web browser.
1. TrafficCompressor is sending the web page request to the TrafficCompressor server.
2. TrafficCompressor server is downloading the page from www.google.com web server.
3. TrafficCompressor server is compressing the page and sending it to your computer.
4. TrafficCompressor program is receiving the page, decompressing, and delivering it to the web browser.

The process is similar when you receive/download some other kinds of data from the Internet or when you send/upload something.

TrafficCompressor compresses outgoing and incoming Internet traffic. TrafficCompressor is able to decrease compressible traffic like text, HTML, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel files transferred from or to a web, e-mail, or other Internet server.

TrafficCompressor is able to decrease (by 25% - 80%):
1. Web: web pages, pictures, scripts (JavaScript/VBScript), CSS (cascading style sheets), and other text based files.
2. E-mail: any e-mail messages received over POP3 or IMAP4 protocols with or without attachments. Compressed attachments (like ZIP, MP3, EXE, JPEG, GIF files and so on) can be decreased by about 25% - 30% (read more).
3. Instant messengers traffic: ICQ, Windows Messenger, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu.
4. Usenet(News) traffic.
5. IRC traffic (6667-6670 ports only).
6. Traffic of some MMORPG's/MPOG's (online games): World of Warcraft, Ragnarok Online, Lineage II, and others (standard ports only)

TrafficCompressor is NOT able to decrease:
1. Web: Flash animation, ActiveX, Java applets, ZIP, MP3, EXE, and other compressed downloads, web pages already compressed with gzip.
2. Traffic over any protocols not listed in the left side of this table, for example, FTP, HTTPS, SMTP, UDP and so on.
3. IRC using ports other than 6667-6670.
4. Online games traffic using non-standard ports.
5. Streaming video and audio traffic.
6. Files and voice traffic transferred by instant messengers listed in the left side of this table.

Compressed e-mail attachments.
An e-mail message with a compressed attachment (like ZIP, MP3, JPEG, GIF and so on) can be reduced in size by about 25% - 30%. This compression ratio is possible since attached files are stored in a text-based format. As a result an e-mail message with an attached file is always larger than the file itself and the message can be decreased in size with compression.
