VirtualDub Portable is the popular video capture/processing utility packaged as a portable application, so you can take your images with you and do your editing on the go. VirtualDub Portable is a desktop video processing and capture application.

VirtualDub supports video capture in AVI format, and makes the process of capturing internal mode, and also processes AVICap. It allows you to encode video to any format, provided you have the codec installed on your PC.

It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.
Codecs Note: VirtualDub uses the video codecs on the local machine, so if you wish to use a non-standard codec like DivX or XVID, you'll need it installed. This is unavoidable at the moment.

VirtualDub can fix the index of a video file with faulty or incomplete pictures. If VirtualDub still can not open the film in the Open Video File dialog, check the box Popup extended open options and the next dialog that appears, select Re-derive keyframe flags. This usually takes a lot, but you can recover defective videos.

With this program you can mix AVI and MPEG files into one AVI file. You can also apply various image filters. Audio can be extracted or inserted, and can cut a chunk of AVI without 'recompress'.
