VisualGPSXP is a general purpose utility for monitoring the output of a GPS receiver. Using the NMEA data from the GPS receiver, VisualGPSXP will display various statuses graphically. Tools such as a survey utility average the position and shows accuracy of the GPS receiver in a static application. Using analog instruments, VisualGPSXP will display speed, altitude, heading and vertical speed.
VisualGPSXP has the ability to connect to several data sources that contain GPS data. The most common is through the RS-232 port. Most GPS receivers have a RS-232 communications port where the NMEA data is transmitted through. VisualGPSXP uses the RS-232 connection by default. Standard baud rate for NMEA is 4800 baud. however, VisualGPSXP has the ability to use any baud rat. See the communication settings section for more information.
