Web Geostatistics
|
Create statistical reports with this utility. Web Geostatistics is a free, open-source desktop application that displays website or application usage statistics using a 3D model of Planet Earth, with all the statistics based on the geographic location and occurence time of events. It runs on Windows and Linux operating systems, because it is developed using Nokia's Qt toolkit.
Web Geostatistics is a software solution that analyzes data regarding events / hits / visits for websites or applications or other entities. Each event / hit / visit has a corresponding time and location. The data consists of a (long) series of these events. Web Geostatistics analyzes the data and displays relevant information in a visually pleasant way. You can observe where your website was accessed from, for example. Or you can see how many users have opened your application, compared with another application, only in Europe. Basically everything that is made up of events with location and time can be analyzed.
Web Geostatistics is able to display usage statistics for:
- websites and/or a parts of them;
- applications or libraries that run on Windows or Linux;
- other data based on events with location on the planet and time of occurence.
Database connection:
It is also possible to connect to a SQL database, and import a table containing event locations and times of occurence, in order to analyze them with Web Geostatistics. See the documentation for details.
Example:
The developer of a casual game wants to know where the players (users) are located in the world. Thus, he creates an user account on the web geostatistics homepage, and then he inserts a couple of lines of code in the application's initialization and links a the web geostatistics library. After this, the web geostatistics desktop application is installed and opened. After a trivial configuration, the developer is able to view how the users are distributed in the world by studying a nice-looking 3D Planet Earth.
using the web geostatistics desktop application to visualize data
Open the application. The first thing you need to do is to add a new module. A module is either an application, a website, or a database table. Click the "Add module..." button, and complete the wizard. It should be able to provide help on the fly.
how to record the data for web geostatistics (applications or websites)
If you have a website or application, in order to register an event / hit / visit you must send a http request to the main Web Geostatistics server. For example, if you want to analyze your website's visits, each time you detect a visit, you send a http request to the WGS server. The data accumulates over time, and to view the resulting analysis you use the Web Geostatistics desktop application.
