icSpeech Recorder is a speech therapy voice recorder, it is designed specifically for use in speech and language applications.
Audio Setup
1. Plug your microphone into the microphone socket on your computer. This is usually indicated by a small microphone symbol. Alternatively, if your microphone is USB compatible, plug it into a spare USB port. For further information, consult your hardware documentation.
2. Click on the Audio Settings toolbar button
3. In the Audio Settings dialog, select your preferred audio capture device. Depending on your system configuration, there may be more than one device available.
4. Ensure the correct audio input is selected.
5. Speak into the microphone and observe the displayed audio waveform.
6. Adjust the recording level to optimise the waveform amplitude.
7. Avoid excessive amplitude or clipping.
8. Avoid low amplitude.
9. Avoid large amounts of background noise. Consider using a headset microphone with built-in noise cancellation.
icSpeech Recorder will automatically detect any built-in webcams that your computer may have. Alternatively, you can plug in an external USB webcam into a spare USB port on your computer. Once installed, follow these steps to ensure your webcam is configured correctly:
1. Click on the Video Setting toolbar button
2. In the Video Settings dialog, select your preferred webcam. Depending on your system configuration, there may be more than one device available.
3. Adjust the webcam so that the subject is positioned centrally in the display.
4. Adjust the brightness and contrast levels if necessary.
The Record Settings dialog is displayed automatically when you press the Record toolbar button. Alternatively, you can configure the recorder by opening the Recording menu and selecting Record Settings.
To make a new recording, follow these steps:
1. Click on the Record toolbar button to start recording.
2. Depending on the recorder configuration, you will see a timer or a sequence of picture, word or phrase prompts.
3. There are three recording modes: Timer Mode, Manual Prompt Mode, Timed Prompt Mode
4. You can stop recording at anytime by clicking on the Stop toolbar button.
5. Once all the prompts have been displayed or the timer has expired, a Waveform display is created. If video was selected, a video display will also appear.
