4. Also, download Real Alternative and install it.
Running it
1. Run rm2podcast. It pops up a dialog like that shown above. Fill in the fields, to specify which realaudio broadcast you want downloaded.
2. Click the "Test" button to check that you've filled them out correctly. It will try to download the realaudio file you specified, and convert it to mp3, and make an updated podcast file.
3. Click the "OK" button. This will create a shortcut on your desktop. Each time you run the shortcut, it will do that downloading and converting to mp3.
4. You might wish to set it up to automatically download the latest broadcast. Do this via Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks
Podcast files
1. Each time one of those shortcuts is run, it makes an updated podcast file in the directory you chose to save to.
2. Some podcast software (e.g. RSSRadio) will work with this kind of local podcast file.
3. Alas, the major software (iTunes, Windows Media Player) only work with podcast files that are on the internet.
How it works
rm2podcast downloads the web-page you specified. Within the HTML source of that page, it looks for the first occurence of the after text that you gave. If this text appeared inside an <a>...</a> tag, it jumps to the start of that tag. Then it looks for the first subsequent occurence of the before text. And then, inside that selection, it looks for the first text of the form "...://... .ram ..."
When you click the Test button, it will give you useful diagnostics on what it's doing and what text it has found. You should also experiment with View>Source in your web-browser to look at the HTML source yourself.
