JavaWords
|
JavaWords is a fully fledged, multiple document editor designed to offer users regular expression searching options.
JavaWords Features:
1. Regular Expression Search Capabilities.
2. Complete State Restoration (e.g. if you crash and restart, you can undo the last thing you typed)
3. Always-Open File Dialog.
4. Configurable backup time.
5. Open Source.
6. Ant Build File.
It is supposed to go beyond the general idea of a generic text editor. In that respect, it goes beyond what some editors may do.
For example, the search/replace feature supports regular expressions. There is a background thread that saves your work, and will restore your session if the program crashes. In other words, if something goes wrong, you will be right back where you left. Even your editing state. Most editors just save the file, so when you go back, you have the data, but not the state. In JavaWords, the state is preserved. So if the last thing you typed you now want to undo, you can do that even after a crash. I have never seen an editor which allows this capability.
In other respects, JavaWords falls short. It's not really a good editor. The GUI needs work. There are no fonts nor syntax highlighting. However, it was a good final project incorporating some interesting ideas about design and usability.
It is also a demonstration of the model-view-controller design pattern.
