Nagster has a very simple purpose. It makes it easy for a technical person to setup automatic emails based on any set of data that is retrieved from a database.

Design
The design is also powerful in that the user has control over what is emailed and when. The first and most important concept is that all of the information comes from the database. Nagster allows you to setup multiple "notifications" and each one requires an SQL statement to retrieve the email contents.

Each SQL statement returns specific columns that Nagster uses to create the emails. This format allows great flexibility because any situation you can write a SQL statement for can be reported on via email. If you want a report with a table of data sent, you can hard code the "Email_To" column to the recipient email address. If you want to send a separate email to each person who has the current assignment, simply query that person's email address into the "Email_To" column.

Console Application Parameters
Running Nagster without an parameters will be fine for the simplest of implementations. It will read all of the Notifications from the "NagsterNotifications.xml" file that is located in the same folder as the application. It will immediately execute any notifications that are past due and it will check every minute to see if it should execute any others. Since it is a Console app it can be scheduled in just about any scheduling tool including the buildin Windows "Scheduled Tasks" found in the control panel.

GUI Application
The ODBC Connections and Notifications are all listed in the main screen. By default the "NagsterNotifications.xml" file in the application folder is loaded, but other files can be loaded by using File | Open from the menu.
You can use the Add, Edit and Delete buttons beneath the ODBC Connection list to modify the list. To edit, double-click the item or select it and click Edit. To delete, select the item to delete and click the delete button.
